we failed to deliver salvation 1.0
by astramodal

We will emerge from that Red hot Hell,
Crawling, if we must.

Through the Black dark,
Ours heart together, chests burning.

We will succeed our Fathers,
See that White Sun shine, light of God.

We will go soaring into Heaven,
those Blue skies ours to ascend.

We Failed to Deliver Salvation

6, 17, 20

and all the while,
Stars gleam
Lord beckoning

14

Planet 2: Yellow and Blue
Marbling dirt shifting across
a moving planet with scattering dots
looking up at us looking down at them
We walk like toddlers falling along
What could we eat here, let alone breathe?
We ditched the land of make believe.

8

I drew my eyes upon measurements,
sequences of numbers,
hidden words on a string.
I counted them wrong and Mel at my side
said, "Try again."

Here, deep among the wriggling pits of dread
are words that spit and spread
Fear,
you will be harmed for being here.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry
"Are you okay?"
I cannot say no
I learned this, I know
it's how I survive
that which is wrought
upon me the anger
my birth has brought.
Say yes:
"Yes."

13

Planet 1: Green and Red
Flower bed brown
Animal curves round
Grass is sharp
The air is strong,
winds push us back inside
That's a no, back up we go.

24

Lisa was first to say,
"Like angels we soar, our halos bright,
our sights set on Eden."

Spinning downwards
streaks across those gray hues
I called them angels falling,
for our wings burned up in that atmosphere.

15

Planet 3:
where fields are free of trees
and leaves and animals
and fruits and air
and gravity pulls at our suits.
We fall at an instant, face first contact.
A helmet cracks, Lisa shrieks until
nothing but our ears alone ring
Back, back, back.

25

Iso, will you remember me?

The rumble of the choir:
Our destiny is doom;
the stars do not shine.
To rejoin the Earth means to leave behind
all that we found in space undefined
Leave Iso and Mel and Space, forget!
How could I possibly-
I cannot forget
Forgive me,
I'll fail this, too.

9

"Wait till you hear this,"
jittering sparkles as waves
bounce and press against
and shred through that speaker's grill
What is it?

4

I am alone without orbit.
But She my Star,
Pulls me towards her
You burned so bright.

5, 16

Where in what world is Eden
For Her gardens many,
Plenty trees with fruit so soiled
We will not give the snake a chance!

Our songs propel us,
Onward Dance.

2

"This is your fault."
"Do you understand me?"
"If you had just done what I told you."
"Are you sorry?"

The Shepherd grants me grace.

Forgive us of our sins, o Lord
We seek amends, we have been dutiful
Our greens once beautiful
Forgive us, o Lord

I'm sorry.

1

"Hey, do you see that?"
A dull blue dot
It's Earth
What a gift it was
And we spoiled it?
So, we seek our amends.

3

Shepherd Xavier leads our crew in prayer often,
so we know well what is owed
and what is due

We soar through those gates of Heaven-
We seek your welcome,
we promise:
to ourselves and to You,
to deliver Salvation.

7

Here is where I am still unwanted.
I should not want to be wanted,
"Selfish."
I cannot bear it and hide.
No dinner tonight.

Spinning right and dodging left,
Heaven is no place for rest.
The Blue skies black terrify,
but Mel is at my side,
guiding light my own,
I feel should I fear?
That shame which builds
up from down here,
the pit of my empty stomach.

10

We commit to memory these songs,
that they might fill us with the excitement
to press onwards.
Rhythm loves.

Music! Oh sound,
waves through ears and back-
extra movement: atoms bounce
electric spindles along our shoulders
I feel in it my soul smiling
Sweet music oh Soundscape
Lifting me up. This our own hymn.

11

You are my progeny,
and will inherit my all.
You bear my name,
you can not fall.

"In space you can choose your own name."
My father's name for me like stone in hand
I'm free to drop it back to Earth
Dropping it, my place of birth
Where assigned to me my destiny
Now they say, the choice is up to me.

18

Beeps mark the little life left in her,
Oh mother, you're supposed to get better
but the grim tempo slows.
"There's nothing we can do."
The phone call is short.
I did not get to say goodbye
again.

Lisa looks lost in thought
eyes closed, searching for her soul
infirmary quiet but for beeps
but those beeps mean life stirs
for all of us, lest the snake win our vain
press against that pain gained shame
fear no fear no fear will take
our bodies our minds,
our promise at stake.

12

When I found her in that mirror
many months later,
I saw her smile and speak my name,
"Iso."
I gasped, "That's me."

In Search Of
a name, I measure myself
(in) the mirror is hard to look at
but beyond [ static ] is someone else
Me, behind layers of fear
Mel says my name is there
buried beneath, waiting

19

Planet 4: Years pour out
failure after failure builds doubt
but our motives and little crew makes do
even as we stare into this frosted plane
there must be something here to gain.
Our garden a metaphor,
we need no bed of flowers
but at least there must be fruit on trees.
What say Eve to her Adam,
"Snow covered horizon:
do we resist such temptation?"
We look at each other,
Mel to me, I to her
Us to Stella in place of Lisa,
who stands there staring-
eyes stabbing at this unearthly ground.

We cannot leave yet, our work yet done.
Try as we might to push on,
there is no place here to sing our song
in these white landscapes of desolation
where in what world is our Salvation?

21

Ship screens gleam.
Messages received from Earth,
O Lord,
"Earth has abandoned the effort for Eden"
"Irredeemable, Impossible, Unprofitable"
"Your expenses cost more than we can bear"
"Come home to Earth" and face our despair
We look at each other,
I to Mel, and Mel to me
There is something in her eyes.

22

You don't hear me say it over the fires
crackling in this deep hot hell.
They are my last words to you before you
go soaring into Heaven.
I love you, did you hear me?
I wish you had.
I wish you stayed with me.

I wish I knew how to tell you, Mel.

Do I wish you stayed with me? O Father.
To Mel and to you, destiny your own.
You're still alive, Mel. I believe. Me too.

"Iso, will you remember me?"
I see her standing at the airlock,
where docked, an empty ship sits still.
You'll keep looking for Eden.
I want to say it. I want to tell you.
But I don't.
I can't.
You turn to leave.

Forgive me, Mel

23

To think I must return,
to that place where fire burns.
Gravity pulling me back down deep, see
Spacenames are not recognized on Earth.
So I'm to resume what was assigned-

Is this worse than death?

A rumble builds among the crowd
we will not go back, We cry and shout
but there is no choice
not for us who stayed
those of us still here, forcibly dragged
back to our births
returned to Earth
There is no reward for failing
They say it again, again, again
We Failed to Deliver Salvation

"Do you understand?"
I don't think I want to.
The closer I get to understanding you,
the louder the choir,
the closer I get, looking into the end.
I cannot live so close to a ledge.
You went soaring into Heaven,
and now destiny cries for us to follow.

Iso,
your voice wavers in the dark,
but she's here. Find her again.
Put her back together.

"Do you understand?"
If I say yes, he'll leave me alone (for now)
If I say no, I'll bite the stone
of anger and fury built up against all
by those factories tall; production
of our sins manifest, manufactured
depleting our hope and happiness
And they strike at their younger selves
My name is his, he branded me so
that when I learned what he taught
I'd bear what he wrought
I'd learn well and live fraught
with fear dripping down
my hands when I'm near
that end, my doom, calling me
listen Lord, He who condemned me
my self torn apart by forces
from beyond the gates above:

26

I will never see the day,
damned to the dark,
I will join the fires here.
All I know but myself.

I found her, out here,
in space unconfined.
I cherish you, Iso, with friends all around.
Stay with me here.

She's still here, an angel without wings,
found Eden on Earth, your heart will sing.
Iso, you bring with you your life.
We will find a way, suffer the strife.

Will the stars see me or Will
I become One with the Earth
under skies blanketed with smoke.

Gray hues,
will I soar past you
into Heaven with wings anew?

What have I in the wreckage of fate? You!

Remember

12.1
Lisa's laughter fills the room and spills into the corridor, echoes bouncing metallic, "You see her, don't you!" It's true. For the first time, the mirror doesn't look so bad.

Her face, only glimpses in dreams till now.

As I peer deeper, these words form unspoken loud: not bad at all! I can't help but smile across a face softer. I twist right, and there, those parts fuller are clear and Prominent. Imagination need not work. I twist left and see the rest of me, it's her. It's me! Radiant.
Stella's voice is softer and always more serious than Lisa's, it sings softly stern out from behind me as she rises from her bed and says, "All it took was a little time." And medicine.
"Isn't it great!" Lisa's voice rings like chimes, sparkling with the lights strewn from our ceiling.

12.2
Pronouns pronounced in the dining hall, what do they really mean? Self recovered uncovering self sleeping, waking to the sound of a name called for me by words sweet and willing to receive self and no fear shall be come here.
Her name is Iso, but they went former transform, the in-between, the Black under skies and above what his name caught fire. Iso, we're listening, you're saying:

XI
"In darkness we carry the Lord's light in ours heart, as candlebearers for Earth into Heaven. Beyond the pearly gates, we will find and deliver our promise: to strive ever onward, towards the salvation of humanity. Eden, we will find her, we pray to God that the Lord guides us there. We will deliver salvation."

0.9
He folds the Frontiers handbook with a snap. I shiver. It's blue, white, gold, stars and Earth prominently embossed on its cover. He hands it to me. "That was our eleventh commandment, think you can memorize it?"
I take the handbook, feeling its weight dip into my hands,
"Yes."
"I'm Xavier," his voice collects the stray satellites, pulling them together until they revolve around him in a single orderly line, celestial objects which orbit the Lord. "I'm the Shepherd of our ship, the Rose-Eleven."
He's been looking at me, so I finally look at him. He isn't smiling and he isn't frowning. Is he happy? I can't reach behind his eyes, reflecting light like a pair of blue moons. Is he angry? No, he's waiting.
It's my turn to introduce myself, I brace, "I'm [ static ]." It still cuts through my throat. I try to apply pressure to the wounds with something else, "I'm going to be a pilot."
"Who gave you your name?"
"My father," I find that I answer to his authority without hesitation.
Xavier brings his hands together in front of him,
"In space, you can choose your own name."
and I didn't consider what this meant,
but I knew to affirm his words,
"Okay."
"Have you thought of one?"
and I knew I had to say yes.
Even if I didn't have one,
"Yes."

"You can share it with me, or the crew,
whenever you feel comfortable."

"You can share it with me, or the crew,
whenever I feel comfortable?

As I try.........to navigate through space
in this shower of curious, dizzying starlight,

Xavier extends his hand out to me.

and I dare not back away.
I take it. I grip it tight. I do not pay attention to how his hand feels, only its strength.
and I will bleed into his hands if I must.

12.3
Iso, we're listening, you're saying:
"I'm Iso." You can use
You should use
I use
I want to use
I
pronounce myself as
I'm a

I'm Iso.

And how to describe her?
"She's a pilot
for the Frontiers program.
She's looking for Eden."
A candle lights in the dark,
warmth in her chest.
"Hi," she's shy.
And she's well received by the crew of the Rose-Eleven.

All these candles burn bright together in a dark room lit, light warm orange as dawn guides space with love, hearts as one, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
